How To Put On Your Spiritual Armor

How To Put On Your Spiritual Armor

Ephesians 6:11- 13,16,17

Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. In addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming missiles of the evil one. And take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Philippians 4:6-9
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things; and the God of peace shall be with you.

Here’s the deal:  the closer you are to God, the more Satan doesn’t like it. It’s like in football: when you are just about to put that ball over the other person’s goal line, that’s when the other team really perks up and starts to play hard.  They don’t want you to score, and either does Satan.  He doesn’t you to be happy, kind, or successful because then people would think, and rightly so, that the reason things were going well for you was because you had God in your life.  So He fights all the harder, to keep you unsettled and down.  When things are going along nicely and then all of a sudden everything starts going south, guess what?  That is Satan hurling those flaming missiles at you. So in a way, you should be flattered.  If you weren’t doing what you were supposed to do, which is glorifying God in your actions, Satan wouldn’t be bothering with you so hard.   But the good news is that God has a plan to keep you safe. He says to put on your spiritual armor, and take up the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God.  That’s it.  God’s powerful verses are your offense that is going to move you past all those people who are trying to keep you from running over the goal line.  The minute you start to feel anxious, just flick your mind to something good, anything good.  Say out loud “Don’t be anxious for anything, but with prayer and a thankful heart, let your needs be known to God, and the peace of God which passes all understanding will guard you mind and heart.”  Just keep saying that and then focus on anything good. God promises that these words will keep you at peace.  Dwell on them. Practice this specific strategy.  That is your spiritual armor which will enable you to waltz over goal line because the God of peace will be with you.
