Mark 11:22–24
Have faith in God. Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, “Be taken up and cast into the sea,” and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it shall be granted to him. Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they shall be granted to you.
Luke 5:4

The first step in receiving the answer to your prayer is to have faith that God can do anything. Faith is when you believe in the outcome of something before you actually experience it. Believing in something that hasn’t happened yet is hard because it requires you to trust in something that you can’t see at this time. But by the same token, having faith is also the most hopeful thing that you can do. Faith acts like a salve to your anxious heart, a happy chill-pill so that you don’t self-destruct while you are waiting for your sign, signal, clear answer, or true love. Once you have the faith thing down, God wants you to let Him know exactly what you are wondering about. No issue is too big or small for the Creator of the universe. If He cares about each blade of grass, He most certainly cares for you. Now, here is the tricky part: once you have let your needs be known to God, you have to believe that you have already received the answer to your prayer. You might not see it yet, but it is surely just over the horizon, not quite in view, but coming non-the-less, with your name on it. The next step is to thank God in advance for your answer that you know is coming and then further demonstrate your confidence and faith by telling others that God has already handled your problem. Your faith will act as an example that God answers prayers and stands ready to guide and reward those who ask and believe. And now it is your turn to act. Cast your net into the deep water. Step up, step out, do something! Let your needs be known to the people in your world. You never know who holds your cards and is the person that God will speak through to give you your answer. If you get unclear and you feel yourself start to sink, ask God for more information because remember, He has already sent your answer. It is your job to be on the look out for it. And finally, when the answer to your prayers is clear, acknowledge that God alone is responsible for your blessing and the direction that you took. So many times people turn to God when times are hard, then when God steps in and cures their sickness or solves any problem that they had prayed for, they attribute it to some human intervention or coincidence. They fail to realize that the ship that finally appeared over the horizon was sent from God. Whatever is on your heart today, turn it over to God and be on the lookout for your answer that He has already sent.
