How To Send The Rainy Day Blues Packing

Matthew 5:8-11
Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory; and he said to Him, "All these things will I give You, if You fall down and worship me."  Then Jesus said to him, "Begone, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.'"  Then the devil left Him; and behold, angels came and [began] to minister to Him.

There will always be things in your life that are tricky for you.  God didn’t promise that everyday would be sunshine and roses.  What He did promise was that He would never leave you.  And that’s what you need to keep in mind when the rain starts trickling into your life. For a great example of how to deal with those times when your spirit starts sinking, you need look no further than Jesus. Yes, Satan even taunted Jesus, telling Him that if He were so great the angels would come and deliver Him from all of His “burdens.”  Jesus told Satan to get away from him and take a hike.  And that’s when the angels came and “ministered” to Him. Now if Satan was “messing” with Jesus, how much more will he try to send daggers of discouragement and disappointment to you, who is such an easy target?  But here’s the thing.  You can’t control what is coming your way any more than Jesus could.  What you can control is your ability to recognize the negative things that pop up in your life as Satan’s attempt to get you to take your ball and bat and go home.  So the next time you feel yourself start to feel anxious and overwhelmed, take a page from Jesus’ playbook.  Stick your hand up and say, “No, I am not having it that way.  I am not going to let the ‘dread of evil,’ take me out of the game.”   The dread of evil is one of Satan’s favorite tricks and biggest weapons because it keeps your mind focused on the scary world of uncertainty, the things that might but then again might not actually happen.  But here’s the good news:  once you recognize the “things” that make you anxious for what they really are, you, just like Jesus, you can tell Satan and the world that you are not accepting the dread of evil; the fear of what might never happen.  Instead, be on the look out for the angels that God has promised to send your way.  That’s how you send Satan packing.  Every day still might not be filled with sunshine, and on those days pull out from your bag of spiritual tricks this strategy to act as your “umbrella.”  Keep the eyes of your heart off the rain and instead on God, who will make every situation turn out exactly the way it is supposed to turn out, take away your fear, and bring you back to peace.
