And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

These men are those who are hidden reefs in your love feasts, clouds without water, autumn trees without fruit, doubly dead, uprooted. These are grumblers, finding fault, following after their own lusts; they speak arrogantly.  These are the ones who cause divisions, worldly-minded, devoid of the Spirit.  But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith; praying in the Holy Spirit; keep yourselves in the love of God.

The secret to staying at peace is to become absorbed in things of the Spirit and your ministry. You may be thinking at this point: “What’s this all about?  I’m just a person.  I don’t have a “ministry.”  But every moment of your day, the way that you treat people and how you conduct your life is your “ministry.”  With every interaction that you have, every situation that comes your way, you have the choice as to how are you going to view the person or event that has just come onto your radar screen.  When you begin to see everything thing and every one as something or someone that God has sent to you, it will change the way you look at them. When you view things through “human” eyes, you might feel put upon that you have to do something or deal with someone.  But when you look through “Spirit” eyes, it brings you back to a place of peace.  You can get beyond your irritation when you realize that each task, each conversation is a chance to “do” your ministry by sharing a word or an insight that only you could have said.  If you hadn’t been “absorbed” in your ministry, you might have missed your moment and a chance to do “God’s work,” because you were to busy thinking what a pain something was for you.  But when you go into each event or each conversation as an opportunity to shine light and spread love, it not only comforts someone else’s heart, it enlivens yours, because you will spend your day with a deeper sense of purpose.  There will always be tricky people and things in your life, just clamoring to steal your peace. You can’t control them; you can’t change them. But when you change the way you look at things, not as impositions but as opportunities to “do” your ministry, you take back control of any situation. Choose to become absorbed in your ministry; in things of the Spirit. It is one of God’s really great strategies for retaining your peace, as you become a blessing for the people God has placed in your world.
