HOW TO STAY STRONG DURING THE TOUGHEST OF TIMES

2 Timothy 2:1-4

You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.  And the things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, these entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.  Suffer hardship with [me], as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.  No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier.

1 Timothy 4:13-16
Until I come, give attention to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching.  Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed upon you through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the presbytery.  Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress may be evident to all. Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things; for as you do this you will insure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.

2 Timothy 1:6,7
And for this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.  For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.

It is so easy to become so consumed with the disappointments and irritations of every day life that you miss what is really important.  That’s why the Bible has this piece of advice for you: “No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier” (2 Timothy 2:4).  You may ask yourself, “What does that have to with me?”  Well, you are that soldier and God has “enlisted” you in His army to serve as a shining example to His “troops,” which are the people that He has placed in your world. As an added bonus of being part of God’s army, you have God’s protection and direction. That’s why He gives you all these strategies to keep you safe and peaceful, even during the most troubling of times.  God wants you to keep your eyes on Him and on your higher purpose (glorifying Him and spreading love and light), and not on the negative actions of others that are designed by the enemy (Satan) to take you out of action. Each day God wants you to “kindle afresh” the gift of His spirit, which is in you because God has not given you a spirit of timidity, but of power, love and discipline (2 Timothy 1:6,7).  “Kindle afresh” is Bible speak for re-booting your spirit.  Before you start your day, put on your “spiritual armor” and re-kindle your spirit by saying to God, “God, let this day be Your day.  In all my actions and words, let me think before I speak so that I say and do what You would want me to.” And all through your day, when your spirit starts getting shaky, just keep reminding yourself to rekindle your spirit.  That’s how you stay “absorbed” in God’s teaching, which is what He wants you to do.  This is God’s strategy so that you can lead your “troops,” and to stay strong during even the most difficult of battles.
