I-95 Bridge Work to Increase Goose Creek Traffic

Lane closure will send wide loads up U.S. 52.

Contractors begin work this week on a bridge repair project that is expected to severely delay traffic heading north on Interstate 95 and send some of the larger loads through Goose Creek.

The project was deemed necessary after an inspection of the bridges just north of Santee near mile marker 98 that showed concrete deteriorating on the bridge.

Until Nov. 16, motorists should expect one lane closed heading north at all times and a reduced 45 mph speed limit. The state Department of Transportation notes that congestion could be heaviest during the weekends as travelers hit the road.

Because of the lane closure, trucks with loads wider than 8-and-a-half feet will be sent down Interstate 26 to University Boulevard, and on to U.S. 52 through Goose Creek and Berkeley County. The detour will take the trucks east of Lake Moultrie and on up to Manning.
