JK Harris Files for Bankruptcy, On the Market

Goose Creek employer has its eyes on a buyer.

The Post and Courier's David Slade is reporting this morning that JK Harris, the Goose Creek based tax resoultion firm, is filing for bankruptcy as it continues to over claims that it misled customers.

JK Harris has operated out of the Publix shopping center on St. James Avenue.

The expectation is that one of JK Harris' competitors will purchase the company and that money can be used to pay creditors. Harris told the paper that he still plans to be in operation once the dust settles.

In Goose Creek, where the company once employed 325 people, about 85 remain.

"We plan to bring them back on in about 90 days," said Harris, who expects to continue running the operation under new ownership. "Basically, (the bankruptcy filing) means they get to retain their jobs and we get to maintain our clients."
