Lady Gators Advance to Lower State Championship

Goose Creek girls beat Ridge View, 62-51.

Goose Creek's girls basketball team will be heading to the lower state championship Friday after beating Ridge View 62-51 on Monday night.

The Lady Gators are hunting for a third visit in a row to the state championship game, splitting the last two finals with Spring Valley.

On Monday, Goose Creek showed its strength as a team. Senior N'dea Bryant showed off the talent heading to the University of North Carolina in the fall, particularly captaining defense under the net.

But she wasn't alone. Other strong performers included senior Brittani Doctor and junior Ashley Fields.

The first period ended with the Lady Gators ahead 16-6. Ridge View kept trying to narrow the gap, with a notable effort from senior Nikia Squire and junior Patrice Jenkins.

But every drive was met with more points from Goose Creek. The score was 34-21 at the half, 43-31 at the end of the third and 62-51 in the end.

Friday's game will be at 7 p.m. at the Florence Civic Center against Orangeburg-Wilk.
