Why South Carolinians Need To Do More For Mitt Romney

Local transplants have influence in the swing stages.

By Zach Lamb

As the general election springs into the season, many South Carolinians are struggling to coalesce around the presumptive nominee, Gov. Mitt Romney.  But with a stagnant economy, job growth numbers barely moving in the positive and college graduates moving back in with their parents and staying unemployed/underemployed, there should be more than a sense of urgency in South Carolinians to publicly support Romney against President Obama.

One main reason we should support Governor Romney is the numbers on the economy. While unemployment numbers have gone down, unemployment is staying above 8% as the economy struggles to deal with the burdensome regulations from the Obama administration, be it Obamacare or the suffocating NLRB. Gov. Romney understands we need to repeal Dodd-Frank, limit bureaucrats at unnecessary agencies and allow businesses, small and large, the freedom to use their capital and start hiring again.

A crucial group, and important Obama voter bloc, college graduates and young people age 18-29 are feeling the worse part of this economy. Students are amassing large amounts of student loan debt, but without well paying jobs they are forced to rely on their parents to help pay down to avoid facing default. This is a poor message for Obama to send to students who started their freshman year the same year they were sold on "Hope and Change." A lot has certainly changed and there isn't much hope for the foreseeable future.

Why should this matter to South Carolinians? With the 2010 census data, the South Carolina population rose and the state is gaining a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.  But the most important factor is where the new residents came from. Many new South Carolinians moved from Ohio, Michigan and other swing states. Many still have family members in those states, and we have a duty as Americans to call our family members and friends in those swing states to help convince them that Governor Romney is the best option to restore the American Dream and fight against the current administration's failed policies.

Remember, calling your relatives in other states can truly help give us hope that we can change this economy and our future for the better.
