Light Load on the Berkeley Election Calendar

Handful of races for 2012 as candidate filings close.

Partisan filing has ended, leaving us with a few campaigns to look forward to. Petition candidates will be able to file this summer.

First, in June:

  • representing the new House District 15: Samuel Rivers and Charles Davis.
  • Republican County Councilman . No Democrat filed for the seat.

In November:

  • S.C. Sen. Paul Campbell (R-Goose Creek) of District 44 will face a challenge from Democrat Barbara McGowin.
  • The winner in the GOP primary for District 15 will face Democrat Marian Redish.
  • It will be a rematch in District 100. Republican . Democrat Tonia Aiken-Taylor has again filed to challenge Southard.
  • Republican Allen Weiss will challenge Democratic Rep. Joe Jefferson for the House District 102 seat.

Republican incumbents running unopposed include Treasurer Carolyn Umphlett and Auditor Janet Jurosko, County Council members Tim Callanan and Philip Farley, S.C. Sen. Larry Grooms, and Reps. Joe Danning, Jim Merrill and Bill Crosby.
