Lights Coming On At Carnes Crossroads

After six years, The Daniel Island Co. is preparing to launch the first residential and commercial phases at Carnes Crossroads.

It's the latest sign that the Lowcountry is coming out of the recession and that Goose Creek, in particular, is poised to pick up where development left off two years ago.

Communications Director Julie Dombrowski said the Daniel Island Co. will be announcing a timeline for Carnes Crossroads later this spring.

Next week, Goose Creek City Council is expected to weigh a request for streetlight installation along St. James Avenue and North Main Street.

Streetlights usually follow development, said City Administrator Dennis Harmon, but The Daniel Island Co. has offered to fund half of this cost to get the lights up in the first half of 2012.

If approved, the city's costs will be roughly $27,000. It will be paid in capital improvement funds and reimbursed by impact fees as the project is built.

The Daniel Island Co. bought 2,300 acres at Carnes Crossroads in early 2006. In 2008, it sold a large commercial lot on North Main Street for The Market at Carnes Crossroads.

Most recently, Northwoods Assembly built a new church, Northwoods Church at Carnes. Roper St. Francis Healthcare has purchased land for a 50-bed hospital, but that project is currently .
