Man Dies in Asphalt Plant Accident

A machinist died Tuesday in an accident at a Summerville asphalt plant.

Lamar Ravenell, 48, of Moncks Corner, was doing maintenance on an auger at the Sanders Brothers asphalt plant off North Main Street when he became entangled in the machine, according to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury.

Ravenell was extracted by the fire fighters and transported to a local hospital where he died, Salisbury said in a statement.

The death was ruled accidental and the cause of death was from traumatic injuries received in the accident, Salisbury said.
