March Math Madness Family Game Night At Marrington

Marrington Elementary School was the recent scene for March Madness Family Game Night.  The cafeteria and both computer labs were utilized for this event. The goal of Math Family Game Night was to provide families with fluency resources they can use at home.

Some other Math “happenings” at MNE during the Month of March included Math Fact Monday and Fluency Fridays. Classroom teachers were given labels for their classrooms.   Students wrote a math fact on their mailing label to wear for the school day. During the school day, students would use their answer as their name.  The object of this activity was to saturate the school each Monday with math facts that would enable students to visually see and use throughout the day.  Teachers and staff were encouraged to participate as well.

For Fluency Friday, Teachers made the most of “down time” such as during transitions or waiting in line for restroom, recess, or lunch to review math facts with students.  In addition to traditional flash cards, teachers were also encouraged to use apps available on iPads!
