Matt Wieters Wins Gold Glove

Stratford High School grad Matt Wieters won a Gold Glove on Tuesday night. The Gold Gloves are handed out each year to a player at each position on the field.

Wieters had his best season yet as catcher for the Orioles and . A tough wall to get past for any opposition rounding third, Wieters is considered a strong part of Baltimore's team.

The Baltimore Sun notes that Wieters and teammate Nick Markakis talked to Baltimore reporters in a conference call Wednesday.

"I’m honored to be in the same class as the other great catchers in the game defensively. It’s an honor for sure. I’m very blessed to be able to win the award this early in my career."
