Meet the City Council Candidates: Jerry Tekac
Incumbent seeking second term, notes unfinished business.

Jerry Tekac is running for his second term on council. An executive with NBSC bank, he moved to Goose Creek in 1998 and won the seat vacated by Rep. Joe Daning's election to the S.C. House in 2008.
"That opened up a spot," he said. "Having been on the planning commission for eight years, I thought it was a perfect segue to a run for City Council."Â

In 2010 there wasn't an election. Now, the three incumbents will be defending their seats from five challengers. Tekac said he has spoken to several of the candidates and offered his advice.
"It's not just sitting up there once a month," he said. "When I'm walking into Walmart, when I'm standing on the driver range at Crowfield. Our citizens expect our council members to be open and receptive to them."

It's a responsibility Tekac welcomes, and he says there is still work to do, including funding, building and manning a new fire station; completing the downtown sidewalk improvements; and work at the Crowfield Country Club.
"There are a number of items," he said. "And we have such a cohesive council right now. While we disagree at times, we all come to a consensus and once a decision is made, we're all in it together."
Tekac is also proud of the work the council has accomplished in the last four years, including a balanced budget without raising taxes or furloughing employees. The city will also be debt free this summer.
And, for the second year in a row, Goose Creek was picked as . "That says it all," Tekac said.
