Motorist Dies After Train Hits Car
Hanahan Police: Driver apparently tried to go around slow-moving freight train, hit by Amtrak.

A driver died in a Monday morning incident in Hanahan involving a car vs. train. Investigators say the wreck appears to have been an accident.
The victim has been identified as Daniel Martin Perry, 56, of Hanahan, according to an ABC News 4 report.
Lt. Michael Fowler with Hanahan Police tells Patch the driver appears to have tried to beat a freight train at Mabeline Road as the crossing arms were coming down. What the man didn't know was that a fast Amtrak train was heading north on the other set of tracks.

Fowler notes that area of the tracks can frequently have a stopped train while a second is passing. "We can't stress enough to stop if the arms are down," Fowler said. "It's just not worth the risk to go around."
