Abandoned Food Lion Gets TV Coverage

Mayor Heitzler tells News 2 that city would buy the property.

News 2 came out to the old Food Lion on St. James Avenue to show the disrepair

asking that the University of South Carolina Foundation clean up the site and keep it well-lit to avoid crime and vandalism.

The school has tried to sell the property, but is having a hard time finding a buyer.

Mayor Heitzler told News 2 that Goose Creek has offered to purchase the property, but for half the nearly $3 million asking price.

In a poll last month, and used for a good purpose. One reader had suggested an education center. Another suggested a Starbucks.
