Nexans Celebration Bringing Haley to Berkeley County

Event Wednesday recognizes cable plant's $85 million investment.

Economic development officials in Berkeley County and the state, including Gov. Nikki Haley, will be recognizing new investments in the county this week.

At the top of the list: cable manufacturer Nexans. In March, the company . The plant is expected to begin construction this year and include 200 new jobs.

The event will be at 10:30 a.m. in Council Chambers, 1003 Highway 52 in Moncks Corner.

The local site will manufacture high-voltage power cables, with a possible future extension to submarine cable production, according to the South Carolina Commerce Department.

A $1.6 million rural infrastructure grant through the Coordinating Council for Economic Development will allow the county to help with site preparation and infrastructure improvements. Job development credits will also be available when hiring targets are met, according to the Commerce Department.
