Obituaries: Nell Jenkins, George Klaiber

Recent passings in the community.

Nell Jenkins (Nell Harrold), 69, of Santee passed away August 8, 2012 at Lexington Medical Center surrounded by family

Born in Horry County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Maonie Mishoe and spouse to the late Lloyd Jenkins. She was a long time employee of Piggly Wiggly and owned Stop & Shop in Eutawville, S.C. Nell enjoyed bowling, fishing and gardening.

She is survived by her children, Frankie A. Fort of Travelers Rest, Dennis M. Harrold of Charleston and Melissa L. Kinlaw and husband Hugh of Elgin, 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and many extended family.

Graveside service were held Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at Beaufort National Cemetery.

George Stanley Klaiber, 95, of  Summerville, formerly of Buffalo, N.Y., passed away Aug. 15, 2012.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, he was the son of the late John Jefferson and Iona Scharbach Klaiber. He received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Buffalo and his PhD in Physics from the University of Illinois. After his graduate studies he was a Professor of Physics at the University of Buffalo and later as a consultant for Wurlitzer Corporation. Mr. Klaiber loved fishing and was a Scout Leader for many years.

He is survived by his daughter, Janice Haynes of Ridgeville, son, William "Bill" Klaiber of Ladson and step son, John Wackerman of Alpharetta, Ga. Six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be held in Ohio at a later date.
