Police: Gunshot Victim May Be Linked to Found Body

Man arrested on firearms charge, involvement in deadly shooting not known.

The Goose Creek Police Department has a man in custody and a body discovered in a wrecked car — and officials say the two may be linked.

GCPD officers responded to a vehicle accident at 1 a.m. in the 200 block of Lindy Creek Road and found a 2013 Nissan Altima in a ditch.

The body of Darrell R. Allen, 23, of Goose Creek, was found in the vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds, according to police. Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury says a autopsy is planned.

At 7:15 a.m. Thursday morning, David Chavis, 43, walked into the Goose Creek Police Department with a gunshot wound in his right arm.

Police think Chavis may have been in or around the Altima at the time of the shooting. But Capt. John Grainger stressed that Chavis' specific involvement in the incident is not known.

Chavis was taken into custody on a firearms violation. He is currently being held at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center in Moncks Corner.
