Update: Police Arrest Suspect in Sunday Hit-and-Run

Driver fled on foot following St. James Avenue wreck.

Update, Wednesday: Goose Creek Police apprehended Steven Joe Stanley, 22, of Moncks Corner on Tuesday. He has been charged with hit-and-run with property damage and is currently being held at the Berkeley County Detention Center.

Original Report, Tuesday morning: The Goose Creek Police Department is searching for a suspect in an early-morning hit-and-run Sunday.

The suspect wanted in connection to the accident is Steven Joe Stanley, 22, of Moncks Corner.

First-responders were called to the scene just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday in front of the Bank of America on St. James Avenue.

They found a Ford Mustang with heavy front-end damage sitting on the sidewalk and a Toyota, also with front-end damage, resting on a telephone pole in a grassy area nearby.

Two witnesses said they saw a man walking away from the Mustang, then returning as if to get something out of the car. The man then fleeing on foot down the sidewalk along St. James.

A cell phone was found near the crash scene that police believe was Stanley's.

Two victims, the driver of the Toyota and a passenger, were transported to Trident Medical Center. Trident said Tuesday that the victims were no longer at the hospital.

Later on Sunday, the Berkeley County deputies contacted Goose Creek Police regarding a call from Stanley's residence to report a stolen vehicle. When officers arrived, Stanley was not at the home.
