Port City Liquor Store Burglary

Owner arrived Tuesday to find glass door busted.

An unknown suspect broke into the Port City Liquor store on Red Bank Road early Tuesday — the latest in a string of similar burglaries.

The owner contacted police at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning when he arrived to find the glass door at the front of the building smashed. Inside, the cash register and 20 packs of Newport cigarettes were missing.

A surveillance video shows an unknown suspect in a dark-colored hood and gloves inside the store at 5:13 a.m. The suspect is seen taking cigarettes off the shelf and from a cigarette case before grabbing the cash register and fleeing the scene.

There have been three similar break-ins downtown in recent months. Last month a pair of unidentified suspects  on St. James Avenue. Using a cell phone as a flashlight, the two busted into a cabinet in the office and also broke into the cash register.

In May, unknown suspects broke a window out of the front of the  and stole cash from the cash register. And, in March, an unknown suspect used a rock to  on St. James. They then tore through the office and fled out the back door. 

The Port City Liquor store was also the earlier this month.
