Release: Bob Call Announces Re-election Campaign
County councilman seeking four more years.

Release, Councilman Bob Call:
Promising to continue his work to reform county government and foster economic growth in Berkeley County, Bob Call announced today his intention to seek re-election to the District 3 seat he first won four years ago. Â
Call, who has helped Berkley County achieve fiscal discipline, a balanced budget and more transparent county government said he would run a positive campaign based on his experience and on his record of getting things done.Â

"Thanks in part to our dedication to creating a business-friendly environment, such as lower taxes, the completion of the Sheep Island interchange, and the expansion of our water and sewer resources for corporate use, we have been proud to welcome many new businesses to our county over the last several years," Call said.  "While other areas witness the shuttering of industry after industry, we’ve had new businesses choose to make our home, their home."
Since joining Council, Call has developed a reputation as champion of the taxpayers.

"Before the recession hit many local governments had adopted reckless spending practices, and Berkeley County was no different," Call said. "By the time my term began, it was clear we had to make some tough decisions to spare Berkeley County taxpayers from facing extra expenses they could ill-afford."
Working with like-minded conservatives on Council, Call has helped pass balanced budgets; establish a capital improvement fund to allow for the upfront, cash purchase of needed equipment and avoiding extra debt service costs; enacted changes to make government run more efficiently, including consolidating county offices; and increase government transparency by making the county checkbook available online.
Call, who previously served on Council from 1989 through 1996, is a former vice-chairman of council, and has served as chairman of the Justice and Legal Services Committee.  He returned to Berkeley County Council four years ago vowing to help clean up the financial mess that had developed over the previous decade.  In 2009, in part owing to Call’s efforts, Berkeley County passed a balanced budget for the first time in over a decade, and in 2010 the budget was actually decreased in an effort to keep taxes low during tough economic times.  Call said that plans are underway for an official campaign kick-off in the coming weeks.Â
