With a bounty of fitness trails and dirt roads, the Goose Creek area provides terrific opportunities for running and walking said club director Dave Renneisen.

Renneisen has been working with students at area high schools, including a summer running program. But he has recognized that there are also adults who would welcome a team atmosphere for their exercise or training.

"I know the interest is out there," he said.

The meeting Monday will mostly involve a question and answer session to feel out the group. Renneisen said they can break the larger group into smaller teams based on their interests, from competitive running to walking.

"We can have a big umbrella with a lot of different options," he said.

Renneisen said there are also some creative outings possible for the group, including a kayak, bike and run event.

He's had students who started walking in seventh grade eventually finish among the top 10 runners statewide, but Renneisen stressed that this group is also for those people who just want exercise in a group atmosphere.

"I don't want the people who just want to be healthy to get scared away," he said.
