Saturday Afternoon Lights: Gators' Home Premiere

We take a quick look at the Gators in advance of this afternoon's game.

Kickoff is at noon Saturday for the Goose Creek Gators first home game of the season. They're paired with Florida's University Suns. The two nationally ranked teams look like they're going to have some fun.

In Friday's Post and Courier, writer Philip Bowman shined the spotlight on wide receiver Tramel Terry, who had a standout performance in last week's 51-7 win at Irmo.

Gators coach Chuck Reedy told the paper that Terry has the speed of a track guy.

"He ran a 10.47 in the 100-yard dash as a freshman. But he actually is a football player who runs track. He's strong. He bench presses 290 pounds and will top well over 300 pounds next year. He’s the total package."

Of course, when you hold the opposing team to seven points, you've got to give some love to the defense. And The Post and Courier picked Goose Creek's Jalen Stevens as its Player of the Week.

University Coach Roger Harriott told the Miami Hearld that the team would be taking the 12-hour trip by bus for some bonding.

"When it's time to go off to South Carolina, it's not so much a field trip, it’s a business trip," Harriott said. "They don’t want to disappoint each other."

In the Post and Courier predictions, Bowman says Goose Creek 35-21. News 2's Brendan Clark says Goose Creek 42-27.

The Herald's Andre Fernandez says University will pull out a win 27-21.
