Search Team Discovers Second Body on Lake Marion

Ends two-week search for missing pair.

The body of a second fisherman was found Sunday evening after a two-week search on Lake Marion.

The Berkeley County Rescue Squad and the state's Department of Natural Resources had been searching the lake daily since Feb. 12, when after they didn't return from an overnight fishing trip.

A helicopter used in the search spotted the body of 33-year-old Douglas Smith of Ravenel in the same area . Coroner Bill Salisbury has ruled both deaths accidental and the cause of the deaths is drowning.

Salisbury said the bodies were found not far from the site of their boat. Their 14-foot aluminum boat was found on Feb. 12. It was overturned near the mouth of the Diversion Canal.
