Update: Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Berkeley County

A few storms could become severe as they cross through the Lowcountry.

Update, 3 p.m.: A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 9 p.m.

Original Report: There's a chance for isolated severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected for the area, including Berkeley and Dorchester counties, with a few storms possibly becoming severe — producing damaging wind gusts more than 60 mph and quarter-sized hail, according to the NWS.

The weather should be at its worst between 2-10 p.m. Residents are encouraged to monitor local media for updates, and to prepare to move indoors quickly this afternoon and evening as bad weather approaches.
