Psalm 46:1,2
God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, and though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea.

Psalm 32:6,7,8,10
Therefore, let everyone who is godly pray to Thee in a time when Thou mayest be found; Surely in a flood of great waters they shall not reach him. Thou art my hiding place; Thou dost preserve me from trouble; Thou dost surround me with songs of deliverance. I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you. Many are the sorrows of the wicked; But he who trusts in the LORD, lovingkindness shall surround him.

Psalm 33:20,21
Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. For our heart rejoices in Him, because we trust in His holy name.
Times change and customs alter. Just when you start to feel comfortable in your life, something happens to you or someone you love and all of a sudden you are faced with a whole new set of worries. And at the very root of your anxiety is the scary thought that somehow you will be hurt by this new occurrence in your life. It may be your health is slipping, your work is tricky, or your loved one is not doing so very well and you just feel like a “flood of great waters” is about to drown you. If this is you today, God has a word for you. Take the eyes of your spirit off that which is threatening to overcome you and repeat one of the most comforting verses in all of scripture: “I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From whence shall my help come? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow my foot to slip; He who keeps me will not slumber” (Psalm 121:1,2,3). Even when everything seems to change, God does not. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Even while your anxious heart is turning, God doesn’t sleep. He is keeping you safe from harm and is your shield against all that threatens you. So the next time you start to feel anxious or afraid, ask God to calm your fear. The circumstance that is causing your discomfort may not disappear, but just knowing that it isn’t going to “get” you will change the way you think about it. And besides, as you continually focus on your fear, you are showing a lack of faith in God’s power to protect you. That’s not a very good example but beyond that, the more you talk about fear, the worse you will feel. Look to God and change your words of fear to words of faith. Sooner of later your feelings will catch up with your words, and you will start to feel better. And as you get control over your feelings, by speaking words of faith, your mountain of whatever it is that is bothering you will begin to crumble. So today, look to God, not the mountain, speak words of faith not fear; and you will serve as a blessing not just to yourself, but also to the people in your world.
