Spurrier Redshirts Brandon Shell

Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier says USC offensive lineman Brandon Shell will redshirt this year.

The Goose Creek grad was picked up by USC with big expectations. The redshirt process will keep him off the field this year, but gives him another year of eligibility.

"He's fine with it and he knows he's got a ways to go," Spurrier said Saturday.

Spurrier noted last month that the USC offense is different than Goose Creek.

"He's got a lot to learn," he said of Shell. "He played in a running offense down at Goose Creek, so the pass protection is a lot to learn for him, but he's coming along nicely."
