Storm Could Run Near S.C. Coast This Weekend

Emily's forecast shifting west, but still a threat.

11 p.m. Update: The National Hurricane Center forecast is moving the storm's expected track farther west and into the Atlantic, but still has it running parallel to the South Carolina coast late Saturday and early Sunday.

11 a.m. Update: The National Hurricane Center forecast has the storm skirting the South Carolina coast by Sunday morning and maintains the 70 mph strength prediction.

First Report: The early morning course for Tropical Storm Emily has shifted the long-term route for the storm toward the South Carolina coast this weekend.

That said, the NHC notes, "there is considerable uncertainty as to where Emily will be and how strong it will be in three to five days."

As of Sunday morning, the National Hurricane Center predicts the storm could be less than 100 miles from the Charleston shores and ready to brush along the coast.

It's predicted that the storm wouldn't reach hurricane strength, but still have winds up to 70 mph. But, variables could shift the direction and strength of the storm.
