3:57 p.m.: The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement due to a storm system that continues to impact the Lowcountry this afternoon, particularly portions of Charleston, Berkeley and Georgetown.
Gusty winds of up to 40-50 mph and penny size hail are expected until 4:30 p.m. The Weather Service notes that frequent lightning is accompanying the storms, along with heavy rain.Â

Those outdoors are warned to stay away from tall objects and drivers should slow down and not drive where the water has covered the road. Those indoors are told to stay away from windows and doors.
Avoid using electrical appliances and plumbing unless it's an emergency. Residents should prepare to take action in case of a severe thunderstorm warning.
