Berkeley County residents and civic organizations contributed more than 13,000 in school supplies valued at more $18,000 for students and teachers earlier this month.
The first annual Stuff the Bus Berkeley campaign was a week-long drive for the items students would need (like book bags, pencils, crayons, notebooks) and the resources important for teachers (like printer paper and dry erase markers).
"Our goal was to engage our community in supporting education in Berkeley County," said District Superintendent Rodney Thompson in a statement. "I am pleased to report that the community response has been overwhelming."

More than 30 local businesses and organizations participated in the effort, including Goose Creek's J.W. Aluminum, that collected more than 2,000 items.
"It's heart-warming to know that people believe in what we're doing," Thompson said. "This community poured out its heart for our students, and we are grateful for their support."

Patch as the local Goose Creek 9-12 group donated supplies at Devon Forest Elementary.
