Suspect Identified in Armed Robbery Attempt

Goose Creek Police issues warrant for 21-year-old.

Investigators have issued a warrant in the at a Goose Creek ATM. 

Steven A. Withers II, 21, is wanted for attempted armed robbery. Those with information on his whereabouts are asked to contact police, but are warned not to approach him. He should be considered armed and dangerous, according to Goose Creek Police.

Near 10 p.m. Monday night, a woman told police that she was at the machine at the South Carolina Federal Credit Union on Bridgetown Road when a man in a black hood and dark jeans approached the ATM on foot and said, "Give me the money."

She told police that she canceled her transaction and drove away. The man walked after her car, but soon turned back to the parking lot.

A Sheriff's Department K-9 unit attempted to pick up a trail, but lost it near the old Food Lion shopping center.

North Charleston investigators  who walked up to a driver at an ATM off University Boulevard on April 1 with a similar demand.

Goose Creek Police spokesman Capt. John Grainger says the investigation is just beginning in the April 16 case and no link has been made yet between the two.

The victim in the North Charleston case told police that he pulled up to the ATM to make a withdraw when the man, described as a black male with a hood pulled down over his eyes, allegedly held a silver handgun and demanded the money.

According to police, the suspect stepped back and that's when the victim drove off.
