To Calm Your Nerves, Be a Non-Grumbly, Light-Shining Servant

Philippians 2:1-16
If therefore there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion,  make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.  Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself;  do not [merely] look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.  Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, [and] being made in the likeness of men.  He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Do all things without grumbling or disputing; that you may prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life.

God has some great strategies for calming your nerves and being successful no matter where you are.  First, have a Christ-like attitude.  Jesus, even though He was the ultimate king of all kings, came to earth in the form of a servant. When you go into any situation, soften your spirit by thinking to yourself, “How can I help this person?  How can I make this situation better?” This humble, helpful attitude will be so appreciated by whomever you are dealing with and as a result the reaction you will receive will be so much better than you ever could have imagined.  As you fill your mind with “How can I help?” thoughts, it will push away your self doubting until there is no room left for fear.  The second strategy for nerve calming and success is not to grumble or complain about how tricky things are for you.  When you spend your moments talking about how bad things are, it is never becoming and truly will only make you feel worse. Satan however, loves when you do this, because as you open your mouth and speak words of dissatisfaction, he jumps right in and steals your peaceful spirit. Again, use your energy and words being helpful instead of grumbly. In that way, you take back control in a positive way.  And finally always keep in mind that God wants you to be a light in your world, so that when people see you, they see a shining example of His love and goodness. God tells you this so that you can bring comfort to others and serve as His ambassador or model in a world that is often not so very nice.  But most importantly, God wants you to have a plan or a strategy for acting so that you can go into any situation and feel more confident. You may not know the exact solution or words that would fix whatever problem is in front of you, but “How can I help you? I am here for you,” is the greatest of starts.
