Tractor Stolen From Construction Site

Unknown thief drove off with $20,000 John Deere near Montague Plantation Road.

Crewman at a Goose Creek construction site arrived Monday morning to find that someone had stolen a $20,000 John Deere Tractor over the weekend.

An officer on routine patrol down Montague Plantation Road was flagged down by the site supervisor.

The tractor was last seen in a washout at the site Friday afternoon. After two days of hard rain, footprints were visible in the mud, as well as tracks that suggest the thief made off with the tractor and a rake that was attached to the back.

The site supervisor told police that the unknown suspects would have had to know something about construction equipment, because there is a unique key necessary for the theft that's only accessible to someone using similar equipment. If the tractor was hauled away, it would have required a truck with a significant towing capacity, the supervisor told police.
