Train Hits Car At Red Bank/ U.S. 52 Intersection
Reports: Driver taken to hospital late Saturday, but he was alert.

A car sitting on the tracks at the Red Bank Road/U.S. 52 intersection was struck by a train Saturday night, ejecting the driver.
The driver was admitted to the hospital but The Post and Courier notes he was alert enough to talk to police.
News 2 reports that at least four cars were involved in the incident as the car was shoved off the tracks.

A similar accident in May occurred while the nearby intersection was blocked for a funeral procession.

- In April 2007, two passengers narrowly escaped their stuck car before it was demolished by a freight train.
- Three people died in a June 1999 accident. In August 2010, the S.C. Supreme Court ruled the state Department of Transportation was not liable in that case.
- In December 1998, a soft drink delivery truck was hit by a train after the driver couldn't clear the tracks when stopped at the light. A Post and Courier headline at the time noted: "About 1,000 cases of soda were hurtled into the air."
