Update On I-95 Detour Through Goose Creek

DOT says bridge repair project ahead of schedule.

Contractors are more than halfway done with repair work on Interstate 95 that has through Goose Creek.

Work began in September after an inspection of the bridge just north of Santee near mile marker 98 showed concrete deteriorating.

The project is expected to be completed by Nov. 16 and the DOT reports contractor Carolina Bridge Co. is actually ahead of schedule.

Repair work has reduced traffic to one lane and cut the speed limit through the construction site to 45 mph, causing heavy congestion on the busy interstate.

With the reduced lane width during construction, all wide-load trailers have been rerouted. Trucks with loads wider than 8-and-a-half feet are sent down Interstate 26 to University Boulevard, and on to U.S. 52 through Goose Creek and Berkeley County. The detour takes the trucks east of Lake Moultrie and on up to Manning.
