Virgil Smalls Signs With S.C. State

Goose Creek full back Virgil Smalls, a powerhouse player in the Gator's championship season, signed Wednesday with South Carolina State University.

News of Smalls' broke after a visit last month.

"The school has what I need to succeed in my life and get my degree," Smalls said. "There's an enthusiastic coach and staff I really like."

Smalls tops MaxPreps' state rankings for rushing and scoring. 

He won't be too far away and he's keeping his eye on his former teammates who will be defending the state title in the fall.

"I wish I could stay one more year just to go to state and do it all over again," Smalls said. "It was phenominal."
