Week Ahead: County Stormwater Fees, Goose Creek Economic Development

A look at the upcoming public meetings and political events.

Busy week of public meetings:

The Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a “Salute to Small Business” luncheon at noon Monday at the North Charleston Convention Center at 5001 Coliseum Drive. The guest speaker will be Rep. Tim Scott, himself a small businessman. The event is $45 for members and $60 for non-members. RSVP at 761-8238 or 577-9549.

Berkeley County Council committees will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the administration building at 1003 Highway 52 in Moncks Corner. The Committee on Public Works and Purchasing will be considering a construction contract for a sewer rehabilitation project along Red Bank Road. The committee will also discuss the proposed Stormwater Management program.

The Berkeley County Board of Education will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the boardroom, 229 East Main Street, Moncks Corner. There will be a presentation on Mead/Westvaco. There will also be a second vote on the district’s social media guidelines. It’s the first step toward an official district presence on Facebook and Twitter. The board will also review PASS results.

The Goose Creek City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the municipal center, 519 N Goose Creek Blvd. It isn’t a very long agenda, but Mayor Mike Heitzler will be presenting another update on the 2010 strategic plan: the formation of an economic development plan.

Also Hanahan City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Municipal Court Complex, 1255 Yeamans Hall Road.
