Week in Review: Beating Death, Woodchips, and Flash Floods

Politics and the new school year round out the week's big stories.

The week began with at the Moonshine Saloon on Myers Road. Ricky Duttine was laid to rest on Thursday. He was found on the ground in front of the bar early Saturday morning. He died later in the day. Suspects in the case, Justin Johnson, 24, of 10 Pruitt St. in Summerville, and Jonathan Powell, 26, of 106 Pelicao Lane in Ladson, have been charged with voluntary manslaughter.

All week, Berkeley County parents and teachers were prepping for another school year, while other residents were joining in by donating school supplies for students and teachers in the campaign. We even got a chance to visit with Goose Creek 9-12 as to Devon Forest Elementary.

It was a week's worth of election news. Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman was in town on Sunday and Monday to and talk . Then Texas Gov. Rick Perry stole everyone's thunder with his in Charleston that he is running for president.

If you're a commuter, we know Wednesday morning. At 4 a.m. two tractor trailers were in an accident near Ashley Phosphate on Interstate 26 that sent both drivers to the hospital. The collision sent their cargo, woodchips heading for a local paper mill, flying all over the road, blocking traffic until after noon. Drivers were rerouted, clogging secondary routes like Rivers Avenue and North Rhett.

After weeks of oppressive heat, the temps cooled slightly. But what we lost in heat, we made up for in rain. in the area closed some streets in the Goose Creek area. The bad weather also rained out the planned at Goose Creek High School.
