Weekend Church Fire Causes $50k in Damage
New Northwood Assembly storage room destroyed.

The contractor estimates at least $50,000 in damage due to an afternoon fire Sunday at the future site of Northwood Assembly Church.
The fire was largely contained to room that crews were using to store some construction materials — things like door handles and emergency bars that hadn't been installed yet, said Goose Creek Fire Chief Steve Chapman.
Nearly two dozen firefighters, including assistance from Pine Ridge, quickly got the fire under control, battling the blaze for roughly 30 minutes.

Chapman said the fire is still under investigation but was likely caused by a temporary light hanging in the room, since the room was locked when firefighters arrived and there didn't appear to be anything else in the room that could have started the blaze.
The estimated damage included $25,000 in damage to the structure and an additional $25,000 in damage to the materials stored in the room.
