What To Do To Feel Better: Be A Seed Sower And Remember That God’s Got You Covered

Proverbs 3:24-27

When you lie down, you will not be afraid; When you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Do not be afraid of sudden fear, Nor of the onslaught of the wicked when it comes; For the LORD will be your confidence, And will keep your foot from being caught. Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.

So many times people just want an answer.  They want to know what to do to feel better, get the best result, and keep themselves or their loved ones from harm. That is why God is such a great deal.  He always wants to “tell” you what to do.  And the really neat thing about God is: first He advices you on what you should do and then He
“tells” you what He’s going to do.  And just like with a really good lawyer, counselor or teacher, if you would just follow their advice you would gain wisdom, be successful and just plain feel better. Well, that’s what God wants to be for you- your “go to” person for everything; not just when things are bad, but all the time.  The book of Proverbs is a great book for “hearing” God’s specific advice.  And in the spirit of what you should do, He says that if it’s in your power to help someone, do it…even when you are busy…even when that person isn’t your all-time favorite.  It’s all part of God’s plan to help all his children. Cleary, the obvious person that is benefiting from your kindness is the one that you are being nice to.  However sowing or planting seeds of helpfulness also benefits you.  Studies show that one simple strategy for warding off depression is “doing” acts of kindness for others.  This works for two reasons.  First, when your mind is on someone else, it is off you.  And second, as you go through your life being a “seed sower,” which is “Bible Speak” for someone who does and says good things, you create an aura or vibe of love and positivity that will surround you and act as a shield to guard your spirit.  And truly, when you are constantly trying to do the right thing, the kind thing, people will have a harder time being not-so-very nice to you.  O.K., that’s your part.  As for God, what He says is not to spend your time dwelling on something bad that you just “know” is coming your way; because remember all those good seeds you sowed?  God wants you to know that whatever your particular worry is, it’s not going to “get you.”  God will not let anything or anyone cause you to sink, because at the end of the day, He and all the grateful people in your world know your heart.
