Wieters Heading to MLB All-Star Game
The Stratford High grad will represent Orioles on July 12.

Stratford High grad Matt Wieters will be making his first appearance next week at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
The 25-year-old catcher for the Baltimore Orioles will be playing for the American League team on July 12 in Phoenix.
"You know, [I'm] just proud of being able to improve from last year to this year and to have the improvement that allowed me to have the opportunity to go to Arizona,” Wieters told mlb.com.

So far this year, Wieters’ batting average is .262, with seven homeruns and 33 RBIs.
American League All-Star Manager Ron Washington told the Baltimore Sun that he could have picked a different Oriole, but that Wieters is having an outstanding year.

"There's not many catchers out there with the ability and the quality that this kid has," Washington said. "I don't believe this will be his only All-Star Game."
