Wieters Hits 20th Season Home Run

Stratford High grad posting his career best.

Orioles catcher and Stratford High grad Matt Wieters has hit three home runs in three games this week, securing the win in Tuesday night's game and scoring twice on Wednesday.

He's reached 20 home runs this season, a personal best. And he is also the youngest catcher in Orioles franchise history to reach the 20 HR mark.

Manager Buck Showalter told MLB.com he's proud of s work this season.

"He's gotten better every year he's been here. It's pretty easy to look prophetic when you're talking about someone with the upbringing of Matt Wieters."

Speaking to MASN Sports after home run No. 19, Wieters was humble about the achievement.

"That's what's great about baseball is no matter how good you are, you're failing seven out of 10 times and there's always something you can get better at."
