Woman Struck By Freight Train

Coroner: Woman was standing on tracks at Hanahan Road crossing.

A woman died after she was hit by a freight train early Thursday, according to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury.

Officials are working to identify the woman and notify her next of kin.

Just after 3 a.m. Thursday morning, she was reportedly standing on the tracks at the Hanahan Road crossing when the freight train hit her, according to Salisbury.

She died from massive body and head trauma. The death is being investigated by the Coroner's Office and the Hanahan Police.
