Woodchip Trailer Accident Reroutes Commuters

Another major accident on I-26 sends morning traffic onto Rivers Avenue.

An accident involving two tractor trailers closed Interstate 26 to morning commuters on Wednesday. Westbound lanes reopened earlier this morning, but eastbound lanes were still closed after noon.

Motorists have been rerouted at the Ashley Phosphate interchange. Many drivers also left the interstate at University Boulevard and College Park Road, dumping heavy traffic onto local routes like Rivers Avenue and North Rhett Avenue.

The accident happened near 4 a.m. after one tractor rear-ended another. Both trailers were carrying woodchips.
