Today's riddle: What do you call a belt that is made of watches? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. City of Greenville releases abstract, conceptual drawings of Falls Park Conference District (foxcarolina.com) — Greenville officials have unveiled new conceptual drawings for the Falls Park Conference District, outlining a conference center, luxury hotel, housing, offices, retail, and a 1,200‑space parking garage beside Falls Park. City leaders say the project is designed to expand green space, improve walkability, and better connect downtown with one of Greenville's most beloved natural attractions as plans head to the Design Review Board on Oct. 15.
2. County Square redevelopment taking shape as construction ramps up in Greenville (wyff4.com) — Greenville's massive $1 billion County Square redevelopment is shifting from underground infrastructure to visible construction, with townhomes and a new city parking garage now underway. The 40‑acre University Ridge project will add mixed‑use buildings, major retail, and new roads connecting directly to downtown, and could eventually generate up to $30 million in property tax revenue for Greenville County.
3. 6 arrested after months-long Greenville human trafficking investigation (greenvilleonline.com) — A months‑long human trafficking investigation involving Greenville County deputies and Mauldin and Simpsonville police has led to six arrests tied to alleged exploitation at several massage businesses. Authorities say workers were underpaid, unlicensed, and forced to live on‑site, and they've identified seven people as trafficking victims while urging anyone with information to contact Mauldin investigators.
4. Fall Favorite: Ham Bone Vegetable Soup (gardenandgun.com) — A familiar face in downtown Greenville's dining scene, Soby's executive chef Jon Buck is sharing the cozy ham bone vegetable soup that reminds him of fall evenings growing up. While he's known locally for refined Southern dishes, this simple, hearty recipe is his go‑to comfort food, especially when paired with hot cornbread and cool weather.
5. New 'ideology' policy puts Upstate LGBTQ+ arts grants in question (greenvilleonline.com) — Funding for the Greenville Gay Men's Chorus is on hold as the South Carolina Arts Commission weighs a new rule against promoting "ideology," putting about $13,000 in requested support at risk. Commissioners will decide Oct. 1 whether the chorus and another Upstate LGBTQ+ arts group meet the required "artistic merit," amid criticism from civil liberties advocates who say the policy is discriminatory and politically driven.
