• WWII veteran Walter Okrongley, 102, honored with France's Legion of Honor (thecurrentga.org) — A 102-year-old World War II veteran who retired to Hilton Head Island and became active at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church has just been awarded France's prestigious Legion of Honor. The ceremony, held in Pooler, recognized his service as a medic and chaplain's assistant in Europe, while he humbly credits simply surviving the war as his greatest souvenir.
