Despite neighbors' concerns, 300+ apartments coming to Irmo, with some changes (thestate.com) — More than 300 new apartments are officially coming to Irmo after a close 3-2 Town Council vote approving a 22-acre development off Columbiana Drive. Neighbors raised concerns about traffic and neighborhood disruption, prompting changes like a gated secondary entrance and building reorientation, while the developer targets middle-income and some 55-plus residents with rents around $1,300.
2. School District 5 issues more than 300 'Golden Passes' (lexingtonchronicle.com) — Irmo-area seniors 60 and older in Lexington-Richland School District Five can still get a Golden Pass, which offers free admission to most district athletic and arts events. If you missed July's sign-up, you can pick up a temporary 2026–27 pass at the district office on Dutch Fork Road in Irmo on weekdays during business hours.
3. Irmo students excel at national leadership conference (thenewirmonews.com) — Irmo High School students recently shined at a national FCCLA leadership conference in Washington, D.C., bringing home multiple silver medals in competitive STAR Events. Local chapter leaders say the experience sharpened their communication, leadership, and career skills, while showcasing Irmo's talent on a national stage and reinforcing the district's support for student leadership development.
4. South Carolina Mayors Eye Local Action Against Rising Antisemitism at Columbia Roundtable (combatantisemitism.org) — Irmo is represented in a new statewide effort as Mayor Bill Danielson joined more than a dozen South Carolina municipal leaders in Columbia to plan local responses to rising antisemitism. The roundtable focused on practical steps like education, law enforcement training, and rapid-response protocols, aiming to help each participating town better protect Jewish residents and push back against hate.
