1. Saluda Shoals Riverwalk opens (thecolumbiastar.com) β A new phase of Saluda Shoals Riverwalk is now open, giving Irmo-area residents a paved, ADA-compliant trail from Dreher Shoals Dam toward Saluda Shoals Park along the Saluda River. The multi-phase project, funded without tax dollars, will eventually link Irmo and Lexington to Columbia-area riverwalks, expanding access to nature, recreation, and active transportation options for local families.

2. Speedy Alabama commit Tai Phillips provides spark for Irmo football's offense (thestate.com) β Irmo High's offense is getting a major boost from running back Tai Phillips, an Alabama commit who has posted back-to-back 100-yard games while still recovering from injury. As the Yellow Jackets, ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, prepare to visit Dorman, coaches say his elite speed and growing comfort in Irmo's system could make the team even tougher to stop.

3. Dominion Energy Begins Lake Murray Drawdown (thenewirmonews.com) β Dominion Energy has begun lowering Lake Murray by about 10 feet through January, a change Irmo-area boaters and lakefront property owners will notice in shallow coves and at docks. The drawdown aims to control aquatic vegetation and offers a window for shoreline maintenance, but residents are urged to navigate carefully as more underwater hazards become exposed.

4. Porch lights will glow across South Carolina for domestic violence survivors (wltx.com) β Irmo will be part of a statewide show of support for domestic violence survivors as the Lake Murray-Irmo Woman's Club joins SCCADVASA's Porch Lights campaign in October. Residents and local organizations are encouraged to light luminaries or purple displays, donate, or join events in nearby Columbia to raise awareness and help fund services for survivors across South Carolina.
